DreamTone7 ;)

Then you know by accident Thomas Reußenzehn?

Thomas did customize two amps of mine, a 70's 200W Marshall head (with the small "Marshall" lettering) and a 50W Peavey Classic. Both after Thomas work with effect send- and returns, sensible masters and perfectly matched tube sets :D

A difference like day and night :aw

Well, I only know how to turn them up loud! :me

Hmmm....maybe we'll need a thread about hearing loss and wearing earplugs!

The problem is that its impossible to sort out all those opinions, so I'd rather go for one reliable source. Dr. Bernard Maughan, the guy who builds one of the very best tube amps in the world is a personal friend of mine, and I value his opinion.

www.maughanamps.com

That, combined with 35 years of personal experience and a pro career 1974-1985 that included gigs with Ray Charles and Herbie Hancock and being managed by ex-Jimi Hendrix manager Chas Chandler gives me the confidence to make my own decisions.

Chris, try the Vox.

btw, Bernard was recently admitted to hospital after a heart attack. We could all take this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery.

Hello Chris and ppl...just had to jump in on thisone...

...all amps use circuit-boards... take my word for it

(hubbie`s been working in electronic-biz for a long time)

-How would you connect the components without it?

-look at something that you think sounds good with

your Strat and with you playing-style.

-I wouldn`t rule out "modern" amps as Behringer eather:

Ive played with some combo-using guitarists that use them,

and when miked/lined out...they sounded much better then the Marshall-stack along side it...

(no rules...just listen...you will pay too much if you don`t)

Not to be contrary to a new member of the board, but not all amps use circuit boards. Most do, these days...but there are a few out there (Matchless, for one) that use point-to-point wiring. Wires instead of tracks of copper are used to link the components together. Go back 30 years and almost all amps were made this way. (Like the old Fenders and Marshalls ;) ) I think Marshall started using circuit boards in mid 1973...though the ones shipped to Canada carried on point-to-point for a little longer. Fender held out much longer before making the switch. I've repaired many an amp for a living, myself...though it's only a part-time gig for me now.

I'm getting confused. :stress I'll check out the VOX and I'll go to the board D7 recommended. I think what I'm learning is to NOT ASK QUESTIONS THAT I WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND THE ANSWER TO ANYWAY :wgrin

I'm sorry, chris...it can be quite daunting at first. FWIW, your music style does sound more Fender than Marshall to my ear. I haven't heard the Vox yet, so I can't really say much about that amp (though I have never met a modelling amp that I liked).

Another suggestion, chris. If you do end up posting on that board, you might want to also give a sample of what you play (linked)...one of your tracks that you think incorporates the type of sound you want. That will help by letting the board members know what direction you want to go in.

Thanks Dreamtone7, that's an excellent suggestion! I just got back from a late night and I'm marching for democracy tomorrow so I will check out the forum over the weekend.

I'm so grateful to everyone who has shared their opinions on this thread. It's so wonderful of you all. Thank you. :kizz

For club gigs, I agree.

The versatility counts for a lot...

Here's my club amp...a Roland Vga-5 COSM
