Hmmm....maybe we'll need a thread about hearing loss and wearing earplugs!

"Only a fool would scoff at people with twice the experience and the collective knowledge of several thousand members"
The problem is that its impossible to sort out all those opinions, so I'd rather go for one reliable source. Dr. Bernard Maughan, the guy who builds one of the very best tube amps in the world is a personal friend of mine, and I value his opinion.
www.maughanamps.com
That, combined with 35 years of personal experience and a pro career 1974-1985 that included gigs with Ray Charles and Herbie Hancock and being managed by ex-Jimi Hendrix manager Chas Chandler gives me the confidence to make my own decisions.
Chris, try the Vox.
btw, Bernard was recently admitted to hospital after a heart attack. We could all take this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery.

Hello Chris and ppl...just had to jump in on thisone...
...all amps use circuit-boards... take my word for it
(hubbie`s been working in electronic-biz for a long time)
-How would you connect the components without it?
-look at something that you think sounds good with
your Strat and with you playing-style.
-I wouldn`t rule out "modern" amps as Behringer eather:
Ive played with some combo-using guitarists that use them,
and when miked/lined out...they sounded much better then the Marshall-stack along side it...
(no rules...just listen...you will pay too much if you don`t)

"How would you connect the components without it?"
With insulated wires, of course, the proper way.

I'm sorry, chris...it can be quite daunting at first. FWIW, your music style does sound more Fender than Marshall to my ear. I haven't heard the Vox yet, so I can't really say much about that amp (though I have never met a modelling amp that I liked).

Another suggestion, chris. If you do end up posting on that board, you might want to also give a sample of what you play (linked)...one of your tracks that you think incorporates the type of sound you want. That will help by letting the board members know what direction you want to go in.
