Quote: Is he the computer nerd of the family??
Gotta answer quick - got a nasty storm coming our way, lol!
Not quite. The lil' bro is more the parts guy, his brother-in-law has a job where he picks up PCs and PC parts that companies & individuals may toss out. Somtimes people/biznesses will toss a whole unit out because of one relatively simple problem!
So my bro & his bro-in-law, save the odds and ends to "Frankenstein" up PCs.
Actually the oldest bro, with whom I share a small flat, is the electronics genious, I ask him if plugging A into B will make a TV, video, whatever electronic go "BOOM" or what. He's helpful when I test PC hardware.
Now I'm good at configuration a PC to get things to work and analysing what should be what. Things like working with the registry, getting the programs to work together, etc.
Between the 3 of us bros, we add up to 1 computer nerd, hahahaha!
Oh yeah, I didn't think to consider that the "Scarlet Letter", being a novel set in colonial America, doesn't work internationally. In that story a woman who commited adultery was judged and had to wear a red "A" ("adulteress") sewed to her dress as public punishment. I think posting the info and pics is very wrong - especially since these people have not even pled guilty or been convicted yet!
Odd that the pics on the page don't show up, it seems to be a simple html page ::scratching head::?
Well, the storm warning sirens sounded and I hear distant thunder, so I'm shutting down for a few hours!!

this is one of the reasons I dont believe in the death penalty. Death is irrevocable, and its increasingly being proven with DNA testing that many of convicted people are/were innocent. That's scary. I always imagine either myself or a loved one being framed or being in the wrong place at the wrong time and wrongly convicted - and given the death penalty.
You never know whether a conviction is based on real evidence, crowd (pleasing) pressure, racism... humans are fallible and you can never be sure.

Hiya Chris - well, there were 6 of us bros originally - 2 have passed on, so we're down to 4 now! And if I were to post the digital-cam pics that the recouperating youngest bro just emailed me, you'd wonder if it would be down to 3 bros soon!!! (the chest & belly looks like a gutted deer - definitely not for public posting or looking at before a meal!)
Yes, I would think that it would be a violation of civil rights to post the arrest pics & info that they do! Things like that usually used to just be run in the back pages of a newspaper along with other stats - births, deaths, arrests, etc.
Perhaps your firewall doesn't allow images? Or perhaps maybe it won't load from HK? That's odd at any rate.
I have no idea what's what with the Jon Bonet Ramsey case. But then again the cops seem even more clueless! The whole thing is strange - the horrible killling of the sweet little girl, the parent's odd behavior and the law enforcement's seeming near-complete incompetence throught the whole sad ordeal! I'd have to google up any current info myself.
Here in Minnesota when a sex offender - rapist, child molester, etc. - serves his time & takes treatment, local law enforcement has to notify the public of the area he will be moving into. This happened just last month in the suburb I live in. Notice in the local paper is made and there's a community meeting of cops & neighbors. That I can understand, because they are still undergoing treatment after their release and are often prone to offend again. Could be very dangerous, especially for trusting children.
It happened recently that a sex offender was released in Minnesota and shortly after kidnapped & killed a young woman, Dru Sjodin (link is to a page originally designed to help find her).
The story made national news because she was missing so long and because it involved 2 states - Minnesota & North Dakota, thus it can be prosecuted as a federal (US govt) case rather than - or in addition to - the individual state's charges.
The guy hasn't been convicted yet, but,the evidence seems more than overwhelming. It seems he had been released too early, against some folks' warnings of the danger he still posed.
How tragic it all is.
But on the bright side of life, I see that EZBoard finally got my icon back- yay! - it kinda disappeared for awhile after I upgraded from EZBmoocher to EZBsupporter, lol! And the approaching storm fizzled out to just a good rain and some generic thunder. Enough to spook DaBaby, though. She has an ingrained bad memory that comes back of a very severe & intense storm that passed through a few years ago, hahahhaha - the poor lil cat hides under the bed until it's quiet!!

I concur with you, Debbie.
If it were meted out with something like near-infallibilty, it wouldn't be too troublesome to me personally; in willfully taking a life, one should accept s/he may have to forfeit his/her own life.
If a "life sentence" actually meant a life sentence, I think quite a few proponents of cap punishment would go with that option instead. And that way the convicted would have a lot of time for tests, testimony, research, appeals, etc. to overturn a truly wrongful conviction.
Capital punishment varies state to state, Minnesota is one of 14 (I think) states that doesn't have it as an option. But the majority of people favor it, according to polling. Our current Governor wants to reinstate it (most states at one time had capital punishment), but the state legislators didn't pass the measure.
It may find it's way on the ballot though, as an "initiative", where the public votes to decide it as a law. If it goes that route, it's just my guessing it would pass with approx 63-70 % in favor. And Minnesota is a generally quite liberal state! (Albeit a little less so in recent years.)
