listening, Debbers....

I don't like the music... - it sounds, stiff, sterile, stilted....

But I love the vocals....

And the melody is cute. I'm sure kids would have fun listening to this......

Did I mention I love the vocals?

Let me get this straight... - you sang in Mandarin without understanding the language....?

Wow.......

Cool.

But I'd still love to hear you with just your acoustic guitar and voice... doing a song that you wrote....

IQ?

ummmm.

Mine ranges between 26 and 180.

Depending on my mood.....

Mike! glad you liked it! they had some great equipment in there :D

Drooly, glad you liked it too :D yes, its a very kiddy song, sung in the nicest way I could muster. Yeah, I couldnt understand a word, of course Denis explained it to me so I got the sense of it. and there are a few words I can now say what they mean... heh. But you know how it is, so many people sing in italian etc without really knowing the language, so I guess its the same, cept Mandarin's a bit harder to pronounce.

OK, here's a first generation song, recorded at home, around 2000 I guess; nobody's ever heard this recording - I tended to be very folky at one time (also very mushy :D ). The mike was feeding back, so beware. Also beware of my awful guitar playing! :aua

ok - that link works......

listening now....

I like this better.....

feels real...

did I mention I love the voice?

Your voice is sweet.........

Sounds a bit "dramatic" in this one, though.... - and the vibrato is a bit overdone..

(hahahaha - don't mind me - I always try to find the weak spots....:t ...)

Are you Classically trained?

Sounds almost operatic....

(I've heard your "rock" stuff, too, Deb...)

You seem to have a very wide range of styles... - I admire that..

You can do funny stuff for kids, "operatic" stuff, and ballsy rock stuff.....

That speaks volumes about your personality.....

Nice.

thanks Mike :kizz you are so cool.

Drooly :kizz , something happens to my voice when I record at home - and thats because I'm a technical ditz and dont know what to do with my equipment to get a decent recording. I tend to go softer because any more power will distort the recording, so I try to make it interesting with drama instead, and in so doing the bloody vibrato increases. Anyway most of my home recordings are just to nail the song down for posterity once it gets into my head. I still havent found that perfect partner to work with for churning out originals. Even with the two bands, we are all so busy with work and travelling, just getting into a studio to work out bits is a nightmare. Ignition has taken two years to get three songs out arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

I am not classically trained (and can't read music), but I did have training in breathing and enunciation, and I did sing diiferent parts in a classical choir for many years. Yes, I'm glad I can do different styles (some opera too when I'm taking the pi$$ aahahahaha), blues, jazz, broadway, kids stuff, different rock styles, country&western, folk, soul... I guess the style I find hardest to do is R&B (modern day), but mainly cause I don't really like it. It may be the "in" thing, but the incessant vocal acrobatics gives me throatache just to listen, and the beat is boring. I like pure styles of singing where the voice is captivating enough on its own and doesn't have to be travelling the world with the tune in order to hold the listener. And although I'm indian I still cannot do the head jerks that seem to be compulsory when singing R&B... :wgrin

I just hope I didnt pi$$ anyone off with my R&B commentary...:dang

I hear what you're saying, Sleeps.....

Getting tangled up with the technical recording stuff can really put a damper on the simple self-expression stuff.

You need to find a producer who will just let you sing, and not worry about the buttons and knobs.

Who will capture your singing the way you feel it.

And as far as all the "styles" go?

Screw 'em...

Just go with whatever moves your heart, musically...

Sorry....

Don't mean to sound patronizing....

I'm babbling... - late here... - bedtime.... - g'nite...:we

"Just go with whatever moves your heart, musically..."

my thoughts exactly. Some like the sweet, some like the grungy, but i tend to go with what I know will suit me ultimately, and what I have fun singing. And if I dont like the lyrics I wont sing it. I think its conforming to people's idea of whats "in" that I'm fighting against. So many have wanted me to change to fit their sound.:ft anyway, while I feel frustrated that I cannot produce my own stuff, I cannot underestimate the value that comes from working with other talented musicians - that has made me grow as a singer and songwriter in the past couple of years like you wouldnt believe.

:gl

Good nite Drooly, i hope you have a fantastic sleep and sweet dreams!
