"Aqualung" & "Thick As A Brick"..., both classic albums and the band Jethro Tull was one of the biggest acts during the 70's, they used to sell out entire stadiums..
Ian Anderson is the front man and founder of the band, a truly immense talent.

Quote: Who the heck is "Jethro Tull"?
That's pretty much the reaction to this in the US, Chris, lol.
Very few people remember obscure novelty acts from the early 70s! And even less care what they think of anything!! I think it was one of the nightime talk show hosts (Leno, Letterman?) who said in a monologue "The press wanted to ask a Jethro Tull fan for his reaction, but they couldn't find one".
This seems to be an odd, desperate PR stunt by a radio station - November is a ratings "sweep" month in the USA.
And Tull's a Brit, so even if he were musically relevant, he really can't be held to the same criteria someone like Elvis might be - well, if El was alive and spitting on Old Glory, of course. heh. ("Old Glory" = US flag nickname, ala "Union Jack")
He did issue an apology, which I think was pretty thoughtful; it's not like he needs to do damage control to save his musical career. In fac, a little controversy might give it a boost:
In an interview with a US newspaper, I expressed my concerns regarding the “flag-waving” mind-set - not only of some Americans - but across the world.
I now regret the tone of these statements and offer my belated apologies to those offended by any perceived slur on the Stars and Stripes. I really didn’t understand - even after 35 years of visiting the USA on a regular basis - that this symbol had such fierce resonance for so many people as is now apparent to me.

The albums "Aqualung" & "Thick As A Brick" were released during an era when only talent reinged, the quality of music was paramont and it was also considered the era of conceptual albums when the entire CD would would be phenomenal from start to finish, and you really had to take the entire work in to appreciate an individual track to it's proper extent.., if that makes any sense..
No computer wizardry, no effects, just first class performing musicians making the best progressive music ever made..., the best tracks were rarely the ones you heard on the radio..
Saying that.., I have to reccommend the entire albums to you..

One of my bros was a big Tull fan back in the day. He had the "Aqualung" LP, my friend. Sort of an "acquired taste" that I never quite acquired.
I think Tull's last outing on the charts was (maybe?) "Bungle In The Jungle", circa 1974.
