He was really well-respected in the world of comics and graphic novels before he started writing novels, this is the first book of his I've read. Here's a link to the editorial reviews on Amazon...

Yep.
I love C.S. Lewis, also....
Charles Dickens? - I think I've read most of his stuff....
Right now the book on the night table beside my bed is a novel by John Grisham - "The Rainmaker"....
I love to read in bed before I fall asleep - puts me in a good frame of mind for good dreams...
And the Harry Potter stuff? - Brilliant - I love it...

Chris....
You've never read any Tolkien? (Lord of the Rings, - The Hobbit..)
Well - if you're ever in the mood for some lovely bedtime reading... - I can't think of anything better to recommend...
Or perhaps "Watership Down" - by Robert Adams....

Fiction???
AEgypt...and ....DAemonomania
both By John Crowley, I just re-read them and they're really wonderful ; John Crowleys prose is stunning and trascendental.
NON Fiction??
get these three books by my friend Martin Prechtel..
Secrets of the talking jaguar
long life, honey in the heart
The toe bone and the tooth
I consider them to be three of the most important works of our time both for the Prose and the subject matter.
seriously, No one can write like Martin.

Another one just popped into my mind...
Has anyone read "Red Badge of Courage" - by Stephen Crane?
It's about war. I read it when I was around 14. It changed me as a Human.
Very powerful stuff..

the davinci code is an action drama book.
the controversy is about (i suppose) that the facts arent always well...facts. ? like the size of paintings is described wrong.. and to me the idea of christ being married and having at least one kid isnt all that shocking, it is something i've thought all along... and the book isnt very accurate about different secret brotherhoods etc.. if you want a book that is more a history book about the templat knights etc. i recommend "the temple and the lodge".
but when all that is said, i couldnt put the book down when i had first started it it's like watching "24" on tv, with awesome cliffhangers at the end of most chapters. and if you dont mind if the facts of the book are accurate or not, i think it is excellent fun reading about secret brotherhoods and things like that... spoiler ahead: my favourite scene in the book is when uhmm.. how to explain.. 4 men are all are watching a secret, if they are threathened or killed to reveal it, they will instead give a false secret, and the person receiving it will then go to a wrong place looking for the secret, and this particular place has a nun as a sentinel, so she knows that if someone goes poking there, she will have to alert the others that someone is tracking them if any of that was understandable
one other thing i liked about the book is that it raises some quetions about why christianity is so "male centered"

hmmmm very interesting. A question I've raised many times myself.... does it give any answers or are you left to draw your own conclusions.

the book has its answers about this yes, and lots of christian web pages are doing their best to rebut those thoughts.
in general about this topic... i think jesus left mary to be in charge after he was gone (not peter). there was a "cult of mary" that died out rather quickly, most of the disciples of jesus belonged to this cult after he was gone. paul makes fun of them in his letters. so in general i feel similarily to what the author of teh book does, that jesusism was twisted and fixed and adapted to be more sellable (for example to the romans)

I think the real contention between the Patriarchal and Matriarchal is whether the authority in the church rightfully passes through a surviving Davidic bloodline or through the Apostollic succession,,,,,,,
Laurence Gardner, ,,<Chevalie Labhran de Saint Germain>the Prior of the Celtic church's sacred kindred of St Columba and Chivalric geneaologist..(also the Jacobite historigrapher royal) actually wrote an incredible book on the subject that, while not as entertaining as The Davinci Code , is really a very important book ..
it's called , Bloodline Of The Holy Grail , and has a Forward by Prince Michael of Albany
It was originally Published by ELEMENT books..
I think it's hard to find now..
ISBN 1-86204-111-3

very very interesting. Will try and get my hands on either one. I can imagine the church not wanting such questions asked...
Just discovered that the Dead Sea Scrolls translation in English is available on Amazon. I'll probably buy that. I've been curious about it ever since they finally got released.

Has anyone read it? Opinions?
