oh i forgot to mention, we had a small produce business at the time too. grew organic (though not certified because i refuse to allow the govt to come stick their nose in my business any more than i have to have them there!!!) veg and supplied alfalfa sprouts to restraunts and grocery stores.
the kids love going there. there's two streams they spend hours in searching for crayfish and salamanders and juvenile instects. they look for turtles in the fields and the whole place is like a huge science experiment for them.
i'll get some photos for you. i had them online for a while but dont' now. the whole thing is 30 acres, 21 of those are woods and 9 are fields. it's quite a place. from the entire 30 acres you can see a total of 3 houses too. one is a mile away, one you have to hike deep into the woods to see and a third is (unfortunately) across the road. it's dreamy there. deer, turkey, pheasant (i don't hunt though, so it's just nice to see them), rabbit, trees, plants, an old barn. dreamy....

when we first bought the place (land was cheap and we spent ALL of our money plus a lot more that we borrowed), we built a treehouse deep in the woods. it was just me and beth at the time and we'd go sit in the treehouse and dream of the future. well years have passed and we have these two kids now and on sunday (beth's birthday) we had cut a trail back to that site again. the treehouse is destroyed by age and nature of course as we put it there something like 13 years ago, but the remnants are still there. the kids loved that. selena and i wandered around the woods there until i'd find a hook in a tree i put for a hammock or whatever. she really enjoyed that. gabriel found a bunch of deer bones and stuff like that to amuse himself with. i think we'll put another treehouse there now that we're 4. might be fun.
i hope you and shaun buy that island. it'd be a dream come true for you. i can definitely identify with that!

chris- i tracked down a bunch of photos and i'll put them together on a page this weekend. i'm getting ready to take some time off from work so i'll have time. i was looking through them last night and there's some arty ones in there so it might be worth taking time to do nicely. a few videoclips too of tha stream, ferns and some other stuff. if nothing else, it'll be nice for me to get all that stuff together. it'll give you a good idea of what life in the country here in virginia is like.
