“Our Religion” is one of those bands that simply put “Demands attention from the first measure” Blending a diverse mixture of influences, ranging from Paul Simon and Don Henley to The Allman Brothers “Our Religion” presents original Americana at its absolute best.

Americana, first gained prominence in the 90’s, it was a statement of roots and a movement away from the over produced sound of the currently popular Nashville sound.

Though considered an alternative radio format Americana embraced its roots in traditional country and folk to become a genre of reckoning that today is one of the fastest growing niche market segments in music.

Closely following the roots based tradition of the genre the music of “Our Religion” lies based in the eloquent story lines of the lyrical content and the rich vocal performance of Ric Swanson. Couple these with the sweet and intertwining melodies of the dual guitars provided by Swanson and Jeff Doyle and a solid rhythm of Jerry Doyle (drums) and Chris Watkins (bass) and you have a perfect example of the Americana genre. Folk Rock peppered with blues, bluegrass and traditional country, steeped in tradition it is music that is true to its roots.

Seeing this Austin, Texas based band perform live was one of the most moving small club experiences I have ever personally had. “Our Religion” delivers the goods with such intensity and emotion that the audience is literally enthralled. Our Religion is one of the rare ones, totally pro in all aspects of their craft. Their self titled freshman release, co-produced by Grammy winning producer/engineer Marius Perron (Flaco Jimenez - 'Said and Done', 1999) was released in Jan 2001 on their home-grown label, Right Track Records, is a MUST HAVE for any serious fan of roots based music. This is a top shelf album that can be proudly displayed next to the biggest names in the industry. Get your copy today at the Java home page.
